Spring Planning

A rainy weekend offers time for more spring planning.
A few skimmia haven't made it through the winter.
Should I replace with the same or something else?
Looking through gardening books offer inspiration.
The outdoor landscape is monochromatic.
The ranunculus on the kitchen counter provides eye candy.

I found this video of Southampton on youtube.
Naturally it begins with Lynch's Garden Center.

A spring themed package for my sister.
Carrot seeds for the almost four year old to grow Guinea pig food.
The daffodils so pretty on the table runner quilted by Mom.

In other spring planning, it is time to fill out applications for the Guild Hall Member's Show which opens on May 3rd. Anyone who is a member of the museum can enter a work of art. I will submit this plein air painting of Dering Harbor, Shelter Island as this year's entrant.

How are your spring plans progressing?

Films on Art

The 32nd Annual International Festival of Films on Art is just finishing in Montreal (March 20th - 30th). Thirty-eight films are competing. I hope that a few of them will be shown at this year's Hamptons International Film Festival.

A film already generating buzz is Finding Vivian Maier which is also premiering in New York and Los Angeles this weekend. It inspires me think more about preserving and organizing my photos.

Vivian Maier: Who Took Nanny's Pictures?

UNITED KINGDOM / JILL NICHOLLS / 2013 / COLOR / 70 MIN / ENGLISH

The fascinating story of Vivian Maier (1926-2009), a Chicago nanny who took over 150,000 stunning photographs. In 2007, her negatives were discovered in storage lockers and without her knowledge sold when she was old, ill and behind on the rent. A tough street photographer, before the term was invented, she spent her spare time roaming the streets of New York and Chicago, her Rolleiflex round her neck, never showing the fruits of her labour. Her arresting, astringent and deeply personal images are a window on America in the 1950s and 1960s. Vivian Maier died in misery and obscurity in 2009. Now the Vivian Maeier phenomenon has gone viral, with her work selling for thousands of dollars.

Think Spring

It is still cold and another snow storm is predicted for tomorrow night. Longing for a taste of spring, I made a trip over to Lynch's Garden Center to feast my eyes on some greenery.
Bulb flats.  Should I?
By Fall I can never remember where the bare spots are.
If I fill in with some daffodil flats now, they'll be back next year too!
Pansies and Ranunculus.
Love these sweet pots.
One ranunculus did come home with me.
It will live in the kitchen at least for this week.
If we can just get through this snowy week.
Think warm thoughts.
Think spring!
